The areas which comprise the Kyzil Ompul deposit are situated in a large area 115km east/southeast of Bishkek. Soviet era exploration was extensive and numerous polymetallic occurrences have been identified in diverse types of mineralisation.
Although exploration has been relatively limited there is a possible presence of an underlying “source” being an Iron ore Copper Gold (IOCG) deposit. Work undertaken has focused on geophysical surveys (IP and magnetic) and trenching and sampling.
Geo-Consult International Pty Ltd (Geoconsult) of South Africa undertook a review of the work to date in 2009. The recommendations for an exploration programme included GIS compilation and interpretation of all data and regional aeromagnetic surveys in order to produce targets for additional exploration to identify SEDEX and IOCG deposits in the region. Further exploration since has focused on maintaining the licences in good standing.
